The March meeting will be at the home of Liz Scivier, the date has yet to be arranged. Liz, as the host chooses the book and has selected “Before I Go to Sleep”. This is a debut novel by S.J.Watson which has been highly acclaimed as a thrilling, unsettling crime story featuring a frightening plot of falling asleep and waking with amnesia.
We have been reading The Grass is Singing by Doris Lessing; a strange story about white farmers alienated in South Africa by the heat and the predudice. Greed and disillusion together with power and injustice are powerful themes running through out the book.

The BOOK READING group meets once a month at the home of Liz Scivier, where, having read our chosen book, We exchange views on our enjoyment of the book and the we discuss it in some depth. characters. We analyse the reactions of the characters to each other and how they respond to various situations that arise in the plot.
There is always plenty of feedback within the group, ideas about the ease of reading, the intricacies of the plot and the aptness of the ending, whether it was predictable or not and in either case, what was it in the plot gave away the end or because of the writing, came as a surprise
Often our discussions create diversions on to other books and comparisons are made. These meetings are always friendly, full of laughter and we are frequently surprised how the time has flown. We are indebted to Liz for her generous hospitality.
So far this year we have read and studied The Postmistress by Sarah Blake, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and last month Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson; a well crafted, witty and intricate plot of murder and well worth reading. This month we have chosen The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.
