The Wine Group had its inaugural meeting on 17th of November 2011 and agreed when and where to meet in future and what topics to cover. Martin is going to be group contact for the time being. The first wine tasting meeting was on 18th January at Mike Moore’s house. Maximum group size will be 12 and at present 10 members have joined.
FUN WITH WINE GROUP, 29th MARCH
With our most recent sampling of Cyprus wines, the group has established itself as, surprise, surprise, a place to have fun with wine, and at the same time to learn a little about the wide range of relatively inexpensive wines out there.
Each member of the group takes it in turn to choose the wines, and so far we’ve tasted wines from the French/German border, from central/western France, and from Cyprus (with one Greek interloper). At our next meeting, on the 19th April, we hope to be trying out some of New Zealand’s wine offerings. Beyond that it’s a big world, with lots of wine-producing countries to think about.
We also ensure that during the tasting session a selection of suitable snacks or nibbles are available, again provided by members in rotation. The cost of the wine and snacks is split between the members present.
Meetings are generally held at 8 Milestone Road, at 2:30pm on the third Thursday of the month, although we do adjust to meet members’ needs. We haven’t yet reached the limit of our accommodation, so if you’re interested just contact Martin on 845169. The emphasis is on fun, with a little bit of learning tucked away in the background.
After the meeting, Mike and Martin had a debriefing session with the rest of the wine, and the photo below was a result of seeing double!!!
FUN WITH WINE GROUP 19th APRIL
A significant discovery by the Fun-With-Wine Group – New Zealand makes some good plonk!! To tell the truth it was at least a couple of levels above plonk – more than one member made a note to buy a few bottles for extended testing. And you wouldn’t believe how many of the country’s problems we’d solved by the time Bob opened the third bottle! The country-by-country approach isn’t necessarily engraved in stone, but it certainly continues for next month’s meeting, which will hopefully see us getting serious (and having some fun with wine) about a selection of South African wines. Watch this space.
